1.Who we are

OneCompare (Pty) Ltd is an authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP 55551), authorised by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, 2002 ("FAIS"). Our registered office is at 377 Rivonia Boulevard, Rivonia, Johannesburg, Gauteng 2191.

OneCompare primarily acts as an intermediary as defined in FAIS. We help South African drivers compare car insurance across multiple insurers and we offer a free policy review service.

2.What this notice does

This POPIA Notice is a short-form summary of how we handle your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 ("POPIA"). It is published for quick reference. For the full detail, please read our Privacy Policy at /privacy.

Where this Notice and the Privacy Policy conflict, the Privacy Policy takes precedence.

3.What we collect

When you use this website or submit a form, we may collect:

  • Identification and contact details: your name, ID number where required by an insurer, telephone, email, and address.
  • Vehicle and cover details: make, model, year, registration, garaging address, drivers, modifications, and your current policy schedule.
  • Communication records: emails, callback requests, and other messages you send us.
  • Website analytics: standard server logs, IP address, browser type, and cookie information for site performance and security.

4.Why we collect it

We use your personal information lawfully under section 11 of POPIA, for the following purposes:

  • To obtain quotes from our panel of insurance partners on your behalf.
  • To produce the free policy review that you have requested.
  • To facilitate your appointment with the insurer you select.
  • To respond to your enquiries, callback requests, and complaints.
  • To meet our regulatory record-keeping obligations under FAIS and other applicable law.

5.Who we share it with

We share your personal information only where necessary for the service you have requested, or where required by law. This includes:

  • The insurance partners on our panel that you have asked to quote you, with the information they need to do so.
  • Trusted operators acting on our behalf (for example, secure hosting, email delivery, and analytics).
  • Regulators and law enforcement where required by law (FSCA, Information Regulator, SARS, SAPS, the National Financial Ombud Scheme, and the FAIS Ombud).

We do not sell or rent your personal information to any third party for that party’s independent commercial use.

6.How long we keep it

We retain records relating to a quote, policy review, or other engagement for a minimum of five years from the date of last engagement, in line with the record-keeping requirements of the FAIS General Code of Conduct. Where we no longer need to retain personal information, we delete or de-identify it securely.

7.Your POPIA rights

You have the following rights in respect of your personal information. To exercise any of them, please email legal@onecompare.co.za.

  • The right to be notified of collection and of any unauthorised access to your information.
  • The right to access the personal information we hold about you.
  • The right to ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate or no longer needed.
  • The right to object to our processing of your information.
  • The right to object to direct marketing.
  • The right to not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing where that decision affects you materially.
  • The right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).

8.Cookies and analytics

Our website uses a small number of essential cookies that are necessary for the site to function, plus analytics tools that help us understand aggregate site usage. We do not currently run cross-site advertising or remarketing audiences. If we ever do, we will introduce a consent banner before doing so, in line with section 69 of POPIA. You can manage cookies through your browser settings at any time.

9.Cross-border transfers

Some of the operators we use are based outside South Africa (for example, email and analytics providers). We only transfer personal information across the border in accordance with section 72 of POPIA, which requires adequate protection, your consent, or that the transfer is necessary for the performance of a contract with you or in your interest.

10.The Information Regulator (South Africa)

If you are not satisfied with how we have responded to a privacy query, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator:
